Life and career

1989-2005: Early life and career beginnings

DeAnda was born in San Angelo, Texas to Steven and Barbara DeAnda, a restaurant manager and a RN school nurse.1 She is of Mexican descent234 and has three siblings, including two sisters, Brandi and Jessica and a brother, Sterling.citation needed At age six she began taking piano lessons and was soon singing at functions around town at the recommendation of her piano teacher.5 She also sang the national anthem at local football games.1 .5 In 2002, DeAnda's family decided to move to Corpus Christi, Texas in order to help further her career in music because Corpus Christi had a reputation as a music hub.6 She attended Mary Carroll High School in Corpus Christi.1

In Corpus Christi, DeAnda signed with Ed Ocanas a local program director who together with a local record label Evident Music Group helped finance her. In the spring of 2005, with the help of Ocana, DeAnda became the opening act of a local concert which featured hip-hop artists, Nelly, Baby Bash and Frankie J. as a last minute addition, performing in from twenty thousand people.16 DeAnda's first single, "What Would It Take" was serviced to local radio stations in July 2005 received airplay from ten radio stations across the country. The single was later switched for "Doing Too Much" in December when Ocana secured a mini-tour of California and Texas for DeAnda. The song was a minor hit in the Southwest and was making an impact on rhythmic radio. It was then that DeAnda got the opportunity to audition for Clive Davis who signed her for a seven-album deal with Arista2 on the spot.136

2006-2007: Paula DeAnda

"Doing Too Much managed to just miss the top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100, it served as the lead single to her self-titled debut album which was released on August 29, 2006 and featured guest appearances by Baby Bash and Lil' Wayne among others. Her second single "Walk Away (Remember Me)" was her biggest hit, reaching the top 20 on the Billboard. This was followed by a third single, "When It Was Me", it failed to crack even the top 100 on Billboard. "Easy" was released in June 2007 with Bow Wow replacing Lil Wayne on the single version. The video for the song has an appearance by Wilmer Valderrama. The song fared slightly better than its predecessor, reaching the top 70. She acted in the MTV television film Super Sweet 16: The Movie.3 DeAnda was also featured on the album version of the Sean Kingston song, "There's Nothin'" from his debut album4 and on the song "Supa Chic" from Baby Bash's album Cyclone.

2008-present

"Roll the Credits" was released in 2008, the song failed to make an impact. She was dropped from J Records in late 2009.
