Ninel Conde (born Ninel Herrera Conde; September 29, 1970 in Toluca) is a Mexican actress, model, and singer best known for her performance in REBELDE.
Early career
Ninel Conde studied at the Centro de Arte y Teatro Emilia Carranza and workshops of Sergio Jiménez and Oscar Pérez. After her studies Conde worked on Televisa. Some of the projects that she undertook there included Bajo el Mismo Rostro (Spanish for 'Beneath the Same Face) (1995) and Luz Clarita (Spanish for 'Clear Light) (1996.) She also worked with Televisa's rivaling channel,TV Azteca, on various other projects including: Catalina y Sebastián (Caitlin and Sebastian) (1999) and Como en el cine (Like in the Movies) (2001). 36D-25-36
Other television roles
In addition to telenovelas (soap operas), Ninel has participated in several television shows such as Al Derecho y Al Derbez, Lo Que Callamos Las Mujeres, Gente con Chispa, El Gordo y La Flaca, and Sábado Gigante, among others. Most of these are talk shows which she attended to promote her music and career.
Though her career as an actress has been mostly on television, Ninel also appeared in the film Mujeres Frente al Espejo (Spanish for "Women Before the Mirror')in which she shared credits with other major actresses, such as Silvia Pasquel, Gabriela Goldsmith, and Isaura Espinoza, and worked under the direction of Sergio Jiménez, a very highly regarded veteran director.
She has participated on 7 mujeres, 1 homosexual y Carlos (2004) directed by René Bueno and co-starred by Mauricio Ochmann (from Como en el cine). Ninel Conde has professed admiration for Angelica Aragón, Maria Felix, Demi Moore, and Meryl Streep.
She also worked in the soap opera REBELDE, it was a great hit in Mexico as well as in the United States. It attracted many viewers across the world.
She is now appearing on the Univision Telenovela Fuego En La Sangre as the singer Rosario which already died.
Awards
She was awarded the Sol de Oro (Golden Sun Award) for the telenovela Catalina y Sebastián for Best New Actress. She also received the Palmas de Oro (Golden Palms) for her work in Mujeres frente al Espejo.
Singing career
In 2003, Ninel released her first album titled Ninel Conde which contains a new version of the Camilo Sesto and Angela Carrasco hit song "Callados", performed with her now ex-boyfriend Jose Manuel Figueroa. This album contained songs of Joan Sebastian, father of Jose Manuel Figueroa, as well as songs with celebrities Fato, Roberto Livi, and Kiko Campos. This album received a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Norteño Album, which was awarded to Alicia Villarreal with the album "Cuando El Corazón se Cruza".
Recent Participations
In 2004 she participated in the third edition of the reality show Big Brother VIP and was voted-off after 43 days of confinement. In October of the same year she began acting on Rebelde produced by Pedro Damián. Her most remarkable role so far has been this one. Her role as Alma Rey in Rebelde (2004-2006) expanded her career from the Chile, to Romania, Africa, and Australia, countries in which the Spanish-language soap was aired.
In 2005 Conde began appearing on the American dramedy series Ugly Betty where she portrays an actress on a 'faux' telenovela that is seen by the main character's family.
Personal life
Ninel also has a daughter named Sofia from a previous marriage. She broke up with Jose Manuel Figueroa in. Ninel was nearly killed during an aircraft flight. Upon departing Costa Rica, the aircraft aborted its take off and fell into a lake. Fortunately, the people on board were saved. She married businessman Juan Cepeda in a ceremony at the port of Acapulco, Mexico on December 9, 2007. People magazine reported that her mother passed away from cancer on April 10, 2008.citation needed
