Warren Anderson Mathis (born March 6 ,1977), known by his stage name Bubba Sparxxx, is an American Southern rapper. His most notable hit is "Ms. New Booty" featuring The Ying Yang Twins which peaked at #7 in the United States. In addition to the commercial success of his "Ms. New Booty," Sparxxx is notable for his hit singles "Back in the Mud", "Ugly" and "Deliverance" and for achieving success as a white rapper from the Deep South.
Biography
Born Warren Anderson Mathis on March 6, 1977, Sparxxx grew up in the country on a rural dirt road 15 minutes north of LaGrange, GA, 65 miles southwest of Atlanta, GA, he lived a relatively rural lifestyle as a youth, with his closest neighbor over a half mile away. It was that neighbor who turned him onto rap/hiphop via mix tapes mailed from New York 1. He currently resides in Tampa Bay, FL2
Beat Club
His first commercial CD release saw some success in Georgia, and the album Dark Days, Bright Nights caught the attention of Jimmy Iovine of Interscope Records. He signed to Interscope and began working with record producers Timbaland and Organized Noize. The major-label version of Dark Days, Bright Nights (released via Timbaland's Beat Club Records imprint), which now included five collaborations with Timbaland and two with Organized Noise, debuted at #3 on the Billboard Music Charts. In 2002, he had a minor hit being featured on Archie Eversole's "We Ready", which became popular for being played at sport events, such as football and basketball games. In late 2003, he returned with his second album, Deliverance (again through Beat Club Records) which was critically acclaimed, but a commercial disappointment.
Life After Beat Club
The poor sales of this critically adored album were attributed to an unclear classification of Bubba; it is believed that the album was too hip-hop for a rock audience and too rock for a hip-hop audience. He soon departed from Beat Club and began an association with Purple Ribbon Records, as reported on AllHipHop.com. His latest album, The Charm (2006), is much more conventional and as a result has generated impressive sales in addition to two hit singles ("Ms. New Booty" and "Heat It Up"). He is signed to his own label, New South Entertainment which is distributed by Koch Records. Bubba is currently working on two projects: a compilation of New South artists as well as his fourth studio LP.
His fourth album, The Impolite Gentleman, is scheduled to be released in January of 2009. The album will be released via Koch Records and Sparxxx's own New South Entertainment. The first single, "I Like It A Lot", was produced by and features Mr. Collipark34. A new track, "She Got Me Like (Ahh Shit!)" featuring Ray J was leaked in late August, 2008. DJ's indicate that based on early feedback that this song will be Bubba's largest hit to date.
Other Media
He has also appeared in the video games Def Jam: Fight for NY, Madden NFL 2004, and his song "Ugly" in the game "Test Drive: 6".
