Newton currently plays the role of Amanda Tanen in the comedy-drama series Ugly Betty. With co-star Michael Urie, Newton is co-host of the Official Ugly Betty Podcast. She also appears in ABC.com's "Mode After Hours" webisode series. Ugly Betty was canceled in 2010 after four seasons due to low-ratings.2
Newton recently performed at NY City Center Encores! presentation of a Gershwin musical directed by Jerry Zaks where she portrayed Molly Gray and performed opposite real-life husband Chris Diamantopoulos.3
It was announced in late-February of 2010 that Newton has signed on to star on the NBC pilot Love Bites. The potential series, exec produced by Sex and the City’s Cindy Chupack, will follow three loosely connected stories of love, dating, and marriage each week. Newton will play Annie, an infectiously bubbly hopeless romantic who also happens to be a virgin.4
Her older brother, Matt Newton, is an actor who has appeared in several independent films, including Dahmer,5 and currently has a recurring role on Ugly Betty as Troy, a love interest for Marc St. James.6 Her mother, Jennifer, is an award-winning artist,7 and her aunt, Stephanie Chase,8 is a classical violinist.
