Anna Benson (born February 12, 1976 in Atlanta, Georgia) is an American model, and wife of Major League Baseball pitcher Kris Benson. Benson is known for her outspoken personality and for being a "baseball wife."
Early years
Anna Benson was born outside of Atlanta, Georgia on February 12, 1976. In 1992, Benson moved out of her parents' house at the age of sixteen.1
In 1998, Benson met then-minor league pitcher Kris Benson. The two began dating in January 1999 and were married in October 1999. Anna and Kris Benson have three children: their daughters Alyssa and Haylee and son P.J.
Life in New York
On July 30, 2004, the Pirates traded Kris Benson to the New York Mets. In November 2004, Benson posed for FHM magazine and was named baseball's hottest wife. The combination of the photo shoot and a Howard Stern interview made Benson more popular in New York.
In July 2005, she began playing at the 2005 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas under the nickname "Gold Digger".
In November 2005, she was supposedly negotiating to pose nude for Playboy, but the two sides couldn't come to an agreement over money. A month later, she generated more controversy by attending the New York Mets Christmas party wearing a low-cut Santa-style red dress; she continued generating additional controversy with her statement that Mets general manager Omar Minaya was "putting together an all-Latino team."
Benson asserted that the trade was strictly a business decision, but also maintained she would not change her behavior in the future, suggesting that she recognized that her outspoken personality had contributed to her husband's departure from New York.
Personal life
Benson has stated that she hates PETA, gun control organizations, and Michael Moore [1]. An open letter to Moore can be found at her website.2
She currently resides in Atlanta. She works with charitable organizations such as the Salvation Army and American Red Crosscitation needed. The couple has a non-profit charity called Benson's Battalion that helps police, firefighters, and EMTs.
She had filed for a divorce from her husband on March 31, 20063 but withdrew her petition for divorce shortly thereafter 4
