Alison Elizabeth Margaret Goldfrapp1 (born 13 May 1966) is an English singer-songwriter with the duo Goldfrapp.

Goldfrapp was born in Enfield 2, London, the youngest of six children. She was raised in Alton, Hampshire where she went to Alton College. At age 19, she moved to Belgium to work as a singer for a theatrical composer and on her return to England, attended Middlesex University's School Of Art, where she studied Fine Art.

After acquiring her degree from Middlesex, Goldfrapp toured internationally with British rapper Tricky, appearing on his album Maxinquaye. Her mainstream success began when she started collaborating with film composer Will Gregory under the name Goldfrapp.

Goldfrapp (with cropped peroxide blonde hair) made an early acting appearance in Your Night Tonight, the 1988 graduation film of colleague Paul Gilbert.

Work outside of Goldfrapp

  • Goldfrapp sang the harmony vocals on Paul Castle's theme song for Jane Hissey's Old Bear Stories, a children's TV series originally on ITV, but later seen on Five.
  • She is credited as contributing to the Add N to (X) album Avant Hard. Although no specific track is mentioned on the album credits, the sleeve for the single "Revenge of the Black Regent" credits her as vocalist. She also sang vocals on "Total All Out Water" from Loud Like Nature.
  • Her earliest studio recordings are with the band Dreadzone on the 1993 album 360°.
  • Goldfrapp provided vocals for several of Orbital's albums, including the single "Are We Here?" featured on Snivilisation and the single "Belfast".
  • She also recorded the lead vocal track for "Pumpkin," a Smashing Pumpkins-sampling track on Tricky's 1995 album Maxinquaye.
  • She provided additional vocals on the Peter Gabriel soundtrack album OVO
  • Goldfrapp sang vocals on the track "Bodo" on the soundtrack for The Princess and the Warrior.
  • Goldfrapp also sang vocals on 3 songs on Spacer's Sensory Man released in 1997 and 3 songs on Juryman's the Hill, released in 2000.
